What they didn’t really say face-to-face

October 25, 2011

Walter Isaacson got more than interesting tidbits when he interviewed Bill Gates for his book, he got golden comments from both Bill and Steve Jobs.

It all started when the two of them met for the last time, Bill admitted to Steve how he control Apple products from end to end works, and Steve graciously responded that Bill’s way of licensing softwares also works. “I guess we’re both okay,” Steve said to Bill.

Later, Bill confessed to Walter: “What I didn’t tell Steve was it only works if you have Jobs.”

And when Walter took it to Steve, he said, “Ah, that’s bull! Anybody could’ve done it, of course you need some taste to do it. Yeah, it works only if you don’t mind making crappy products.”

Watching that particular part just made my day. See for yourself the 60 Minutes Overtime video interview, jump to around 3:30 mark.
