Apple: iSlide, you don’t

October 27, 2011

One of many things the iPhone has changed the industry; the trivial slide gesture to unlock the screen. It is so easy, and so natural that everyone is copying it, ever since Steve Jobs so excitingly showed and played with it at the first iPhone introduction back in 2007.

But now no one shall use it again, not without Apple’s permission.

As of yesterday, Apple has been granted patent for that particular simple gesture by the United States Patent & Trademark Office. Christian Zibreg (9to5Mac) discovered an interesting fact about the patent; that Apple filed the patent application in December 2005, showing how far the company have worked on the iPhone.
