It is time

November 10, 2011

Farhad Manjoo at Slate blame Apple for this new trend of disappearing scrollbars, he believes touchscreen is not the best interface for every device. Now I don’t really know what Google and Microsoft’s agenda for copying this trend, and we all know Apple is making its Mac OS to become more like iOS, not just for the reason of user’s familiarity on unified UI design, but to create that feeling as if the users are directly manipulating the objects on the screen.

Apple call that experience ‘magical’, and I believe the evaporating scrollbar is only the start of what Apple is preparing us next. Leap forward, move on from a good thing to the next great thing, that’s what Apple is doing and always think of. We can’t forever cling to old technology for the rest of our lives, and I think Farhad has answered himself when he asked this:

“Scrollbars have so much more to give us. Please don’t kill them before it’s their time to go.”
