Three hundred million times three

December 23, 2011

Kara Swisher from All Things D reporting on the three years deal between Mozilla and Google:

What the pair declined to add: The search giant will pay just under $300 million per year to be the default choice in Mozilla’s Firefox browser, a huge jump from its previous arrangement, due to competing interest from both Yahoo and Microsoft.

It’s a gutsy move by Mozilla execs; to wait until their previous contracts with Google almost expire, so it would seems like they’re considering offers from Yahoo and Microsoft, that way they can raise the proposal for new contract with Google. It’s a very risky bet, but it pays off, big time.
