The right way to do it

October 13, 2012

Philip Elmer-DeWitt on the settlement between SBB and Apple for the use of the iconic clockface:

“The irony of Apple being accused of stealing the intellectual property of a Swiss clock designer was not lost on the tech press that had just spent a month covering the company’s patent infringement suit against Samsung.”

No need to hyperbole the story, it’s a honest mistake. Not even a company like Apple can keep track of every patented designs out there.

But what we really should be looking at is how Apple handled the situation, they quickly signed a settlement. Clean, swift and polite. Unlike others, who put a blind on their eyes while keep using the patented designs and then refuse to pay the license. You know who I’m talking about.
