Samsung fined after caught defaming HTC

October 24, 2013

Philip Elmer-DeWitt on Samsung’s fee for bad-mouthing rivals in Taiwan:

On Thursday, according to the AP, Taiwan’s Fair Trade Commission fined Samsung’s subsidiary 10 million Taiwanese dollars ($340,000) for defaming a rival.
Samsung got off cheap. The fines for such activity in Taiwan can run as high as 25 million Taiwanese dollars ($836,000).

It’s like a small change for Samsung, I don’t know which is funnier: that Samsung admitted to the crime, or how low the charge for such crime.

In another story just yesterday (via TNW), Samsung apologized to Galaxy S3 and Note 2 users in China who are having the very same problems Samsung was saying about HTC phones’ had. Talk about karma, serves you right, Samsung.
